Mean Streak was a wooden roller coaster located at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, USA. Constructed out of 1.7 million board feet (4,000 m³) of treated Southern Yellow Pine,^[1] it was the tallest and fastest wooden coaster when it opened in 1991. Due to many issues, the track was re-tracked almost every year and had its own carpentry staff.^[2]

History

On October 24, 1990, the name "Mean Streak" was revealed.^[3] The coaster opened on May 11, 1991.

Mean Streak was located towards the end of the park by Maverick and Camper Village Lighthouse Point.

While Mean Streak had impressive stats when it opened, over the years, many found it rough.^[4] Some even considered it boring due to the many trim brakes added, and its layout consisting of drawn out turns, shallow drops, and a ride time of over 3 minutes.

Mean Streak continued to be rough and had the shortest lines in the park on a consistent basis.

On August 1, 2016, Cedar Point announced that Mean Streak would close on September 16, 2016, in a YouTube video entitled 'The Axe'.^{[5] [6]}

In October of that year, deconstruction of Mean Streak had officially begun, and Rocky Mountain Construction I-Box track was spotted on site, confirming rumors that the ride would be converted into a hybrid roller coaster by Rocky Mountain Construction. However, this was not officially confirmed until August 16, 2017, when Steel Vengeance was announced.^[7]

Ride experience

After climbing the 161 foot tall lift hill, Mean Streak dropped riders at an angle of 52 degrees and over two large elevated curves. An on-ride-photo system took rider's pictures at the mid-ride block brake run. Mean Streak crisscrossed its wooden structure nine times at speeds up to 65 mph . Trim brakes were added to the ride's first drop some point after opening, subtracting a lot of the ride's speed.

Trains

3 trains with 7 cars per train. In each car, riders are arranged 2 across in 2 rows, for a total of 28 riders per train. The seats are divided, with headrests, individual ratcheting lap bars and seatbelts. The colors of the 3 trains were red, gold, and green.

Trivia

• Mean Streak was one of the last two coasters to be built by Dinn Corporation. The other was the now-defunct Psyclone at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
